Since May 2015, the Entrepreneurship Center at the TUM Research Campus Garching is a central address for fostering entrepreneurship. The center hosts a venue for TUM and its affiliated institute UnternehmerTUM, the Center for Innovation and Business Creation.

The Entrepreneurship Center provides a unique support structure for nurturing entrepreneurial insight, talents, and opportunities. Here scholars, students, alumni, and professionals have an exclusive connection with all steps of the entrepreneurial process. The Center offers an address for a thriving entrepreneurial environment where advanced research, a rich course offering, tailored coaching, one-of-a-kind prototyping facility, incubator, accelerator, and a professional fund all fall under one roof.

One of many collaborative offerings by TUM and UnternehmerTUM is the TUM Start-Up Consultation, which support students, researchers, and alumni who decide to transform their idea or technology into a new business (see video).

TUM Entrepreneurship Research Institute (ERI)

Established in 2012, TUM ERI is one of the leading institutes dedicated to entrepreneurship research in Europe. Four professors and more than 20 academics at the doctoral and post-doc levels conduct projects relying on different theoretical perspectives to derive insight into all aspects of the entrepreneurial process.

ERI research insights are relevant to the broad entrepreneurial community:

  • Insights for Academia: We regularly publish in the most reputable entrepreneurship and management journals, advancing the theoretical understanding of entrepreneurship.
  • Insights for Students: We offer more than 40 courses per year that contribute to the development of entrepreneurial talents and entrepreneurial opportunities for TUM’s undergraduate, Master’s, Executive MBA, and PhD students. We conduct project studies with startups, which are available to our EMBA students for their companies or startup projects as well.
  • Insights for Practice: Our insights are published in top practitioner outlets and the media (Financial Times, Wall Street Journal).
  • Insights for Entrepreneurs: We support the startup community by providing workshops for entrepreneurs, offering hands-on decision-making tools, and collaborating with young ventures in student projects.

Research at ERI covers the entire entrepreneurial journey:

TUM ERI researchers collaborate with the TUM Entrepreneurship Incubator on the first floor. The Incubator provides over 100 co-working spaces and offices for more than 20 TUM start-ups that are advised and mentored by the TUM startup coaches in collaboration with ERI researchers.
