In this section, we would like to address questions and concerns that we encounter on a regular basis.

 

GENERAL

Our students have diverse backgrounds from natural sciences over management studies to humanities. What they have in common is their entrepreneurial drive and strong interest in business creation and innovation. The Executive MBA program brings together professionals on topics like leadership, finance, marketing, and operations. The program perfectly suits professionals who would like to advance their expertise, knowledge, and network. The Executive MBA prepares its participants for a career as entrepreneur.

As soon as you are admitted to the MBA program and enrolled at TUM, you have full access to TUM resources including the Language Center of TUM where you can register for free German courses.

The Executive MBA in Innovation & Business Creation prepares its participants for founding their own companies or for pushing innovative developments forward in corporate businesses. The project modules of the program allow the students to work on their own ventures during their studies.

Graduates receive a Master´s degree in Business Administration (MBA) from the Technical University of Munich after completing the program and submitting their master´s thesis. It is the same degree and diploma earned in the full-time programs.

The Executive MBA in Innovation & Business Creation is accredited by the Association of MBAs (AMBA) – the international impartial authority on postgraduate business education that sets the global standard for all MBA, DBA, and MBM programs. The program is currently undergoing the review process of other major accreditation agencies.

Since the program start in 2008, about 60 companies have been founded by students and alumni of the Executive MBA program.

CURRICULUM

The program takes place at TUM Campus in Garching and is not available online. We focus on practical experience gathered in teamwork on the spot. Our students benefit from face-to-face communication and excellent support at the Entrepreneurship Center.

Classes start once a year in April/May. The next intake will start on April 18th, 2017.

Course days include weekends to fit the schedule of professionals. They are usually from Thursday to Sunday or Friday to Sunday in intervals of three to four weeks.

The Executive MBA in Innovation & Business Creation is a part-time program, tailored to the needs of professionals. It lasts 1,5 years excluding the thesis. While course days are devoted to subject-specific input and insights from researchers and practitioners, we ask you to reserve some free time for the reading of articles and case studies as well as for the preparation of presentations. From our experience the workload can be challenging, but it is nevertheless doable for a full-time employee.

Yes, the final thesis is obligatory to complete the program. The choice of topic is up to you and can be related to your project work or your work environment by selecting a job-related research question.

Students show their learning success in individual and team assignments. This includes writing academic papers and presenting in front of the class. There are no sit-in exams in the Executive MBA in Innovation & Business Creation.

APPLICATION

The application for the Executive MBA in Innovation & Business Creation follows a three-step-process and takes place both online and offline. After having submitted the application form via regular mail together with the required documents, prospective students are asked to register in TUMonline, the online platform of the Technical University of Munich. Following this, you will be invited to a personal interview with the members of the program board.

It is not prohibited to apply for more than one MBA program at the same time. However, we recommend you to have a close look at the programs you are interested in and then to decide for the one that fits your profile and your expectations best. During the admission process we highly value students' identification with the MBA program.

Admission takes place on a rolling basis until March 31, 2017 for the next intake. We encourage you to apply early and to make sure that we have received all your documents by that date. We recommend to submit applications before March 15, 2017.

The Executive MBA in Innovation & Business Creation requires a minimum of three years of relevant (full-time) work experience as well as entrepreneurial drive. In order to apply for the program you need a Bachelor`s degree or higher as well as English language proficiency since the program is held in English.

The program and the application process are completely held in English. Hence, German language proficiency is not a requirement. Nevertheless, you are welcome to take free German classes at the TUM Language Center.

Internships do not account for the three years of required work experience. If you studied an integrated degree program, your practical experience during that program counts as part of your work experience.

We encourage our students to bring their professional experience into class and to exchange thoughts and knowledge with classmates and lecturers on eye level. This is why the required work experience primarily addresses the practical experience after your first university degree.

The Executive MBA in Innovation & Business Creation is a part-time program that allows professionals to combine work and study life. Since our students are employed or have founded their own businesses, internships are not part of the program.

We encourage professionals from various fields of work to apply for the program since diversity of backgrounds adds to the skill set of the class. Our target group consists of entrepreneurs, upcoming business founders, corporate innovators, and executive managers, independent of the field of work.

To be enrolled at Technical University of Munich (after being successful in the admission process) you need proof of health insurance valid in Germany during the time of your studies. Please contact us for further information or visit tum.de.

It is crucial that we receive all required documents by March 31, 2017. We encourage you to apply early to avoid any technical or organizational problems with the application.

You do not need an English language certificate like IELTS or TOEFL as your English language proficiency will be evaluated during the application process (by the documents you have to hand in and during the personal admission interview).

Once you have submitted your application documents, you will receive a confirmation of receipt and your documents will be reviewed by the Admissions Committee. The Committee will then decide to invite you for a personal interview to determine your suitability for the program.

TUITION & FINANCING

TUM Graduate School in partnership with UnternehmerTUM GmbH will award two partial scholarships to students of the Executive MBA in Innovation & Business Creation. These scholarships, which cover half of the tuition fees, can only be awarded to PhD students of TUM Graduate School. Other than that we currently do not offer scholarships or financial support for our students. We advise our candidates to search online for scholarships (e.g. DAAD) or to win their employers´ support for the program. Employers might cover all or some of the tuition or grant additional holidays.

Tuition for the Class of 2017/18 of the Executive MBA in Innovation & Business Creation is a total of € 32,000 plus a student union fee of € 117 per semester. This includes academic instruction at Technical University of Munich and UC Berkeley, project work with professional advisory, course and learning materials, catering during breaks, free access to conference rooms as well as free access to the services of the TUM English Writing Center, Language Center and other services of Technical University of Munich.

The tuition is paid in four installments, which results in € 8,000 per semester plus the student union fee of € 117 at present.

INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS

We have many international students and appreciate the interculturality they bring to the program. In order to take part in the Executive MBA in Innovation & Business Creation students from abroad you have to provide a student visa or working visa. For more information see here.

As student of the Technical University of Munich (TUM) you are eligible for student housing. However, the waiting period can be very long.
